Smerins formed back in 2002 in Southampton but have since moved to Bristol to become staples in the ska-dub music scene. Renowned for their explosive live shows, they’ve been firing up festival crowds an gig-goers for some time now, and with no sign of stopping! Musical ingredients like ska, funk, dub, drum ‘n’ bass and swing all combine to form their brass-heavy instrumentals. They often have guest vocalists like Nuala Honan (who featured on their hit single “The Alibi”), and other vocalists featured on their album Primordial Cordial such as Dizraeli and Dom Coyote.
The Smerins site was designed with the bands’ needs in mind. It has all of the functionality required to run and maintain a smooth and sleak looking site. The ‘News’ page gives them the opportunity to keep all of their fans up to date with their goings on, with regular blog articles from the band themselves. The integrated Shop tab which links to their bandcamp site makes it easy for them to sell their merchandise. There is also a plugin on the site which makes it possible to listen to their album ‘Primordial Cordial’.
Their unique name and the fact that they have a healthy and active website ensure that they are top of the Google listings which is very important for being discovered by new fans. They also have an integrated sign-up form for a mailing list which uses MailChimp, ensuring all fans, old and new, can be kept up to date through email posts.
The design of the site is based around the album artwork to Primordial Cordial by Carlos Araujo. This gives them a solid image to work around and the colour scheme works well with the layout of the website. There are also links to their social networking sites at the top of the site on all the pages.
