John Fairhurst is a Wigan native who has been honing his craft for years, combining his passions for people and music. His gutsy blues voice stylings and rock ‘n’ roll guitar playing result in an awe inspiring wall of sound rooted in his nothern blues background. With two independent albums under his belt, he gaindd critical acclaim for “Joys of Spring” with The Guardian describing it as “truly exquisite”. He has played at such festivals as Glastonbury, SXSW, Green man and Edinburgh Festival.
His site is one of few site under the new SoulTheme design. The integrated music player and blog features were important to him as he likes to write and keep his fans updated. His press page is password protected so that only promoters interested in his work can view it. This is a standard WordPress feature. Due to this site running off WordPress, John can keep his site updated easily with the clear interface of the WordPress Dashboard. He also has a Newsletter plugin that’s built into the site, which works with MailChimp. MailChimp is a plugin and service that helps bands and companies send out emails to a mailing list in a format that is attractive and professional.
The site is also compatible on mobile devices, which is a key feature to the SoulTheme template. This was important to John because he wanted his fans to be able to check out his latest blog posts or gig listings, whilst on the go. There is a shop tab which links directly to his bandcamp merchandise page, meaning he can sell his music to people through his site.
The colour-scheme and design of the site was all based around the background picture which, with some editing in Photoshop, made for a strong background image to the site. His logo worked well with the site and is also a quick link back to the home page.
